“nǐ bù dǒng!” kǒng què jiāo ào de yáng qǐ tóu shuō: “nǐ qiáo nǐ nà yī shēn huī pū pū de máo, dāng rán wú fǎ lǐ jiě wǒ de měi!”

“You don’t understand!” the peacock said proudly, raising its head. “Look at your dull gray fur, of course, you can’t comprehend my beauty!”

小松鼠也搖頭歎氣道:“整天炫耀有啥意思,每天收集堅果才是最重要的事。”孔雀不屑地揮揮翅膀,它回答:“堅果多有什麼用?我不需要這些又普通又俗氣的東西來破壞我的美。”
xiǎo sōng shǔ yě yáo tóu tàn qì dào: “zhěng tiān xuàn yào yǒu shá yì si, měi tiān shōu jí jiān guǒ cái shì zuì zhòng yào de shì.” kǒng què bù xiè de huī huī chì bǎng, tā huí dá: “jiān guǒ duō yǒu shé me yòng? wǒ bù xū yào zhè xiē yòu pǔ tōng yòu sú qì de dōng xi lái pò huài wǒ de měi.”

一天,森林裏傳來廣播:“森林年度選美大賽報名開始啦!歡迎大家盡情展示美麗和才藝,冠軍將獲得一顆金蘋果!”

聽到金蘋果,孔雀興奮地自言自語道:“這冠軍肯定是我的,誰能比得過我這身光彩奪目的羽毛?”它大搖大擺地走去報名。

Upon hearing about the golden apple, the peacock excitedly muttered to itself, “The championship is definitely mine; who can surpass my dazzling feathers?” It strutted off proudly to register.

比賽會場裏,報名的動物很多,但是自視甚高的孔雀瞧也不瞧它們一眼,甚至還插隊報名,大家只能無可奈何地搖搖頭。

選美比賽當天,森林中央搭起了一個豪華的舞臺,台下圍滿了動物,大家熱烈地討論著:“聽說今年小松鼠也報名了,它的控制尾巴的技巧可厲害了。”有的動物則說:“小兔子的彈跳能力更是森林裏的一絕啊!”

On the day of the beauty contest, a luxurious stage was set up in the forest’s center, surrounded by animals. Everyone was eagerly discussing, “I heard the little squirrel also registered this year, and its tail control skills are amazing.” Some animals added, “The little rabbit’s jumping ability is the best in the forest!”

裁判是德高望重的貓頭鷹先生。它嚴肅地站在評委席上,扶了一下眼鏡,然後揮動翅膀宣佈:“比賽開始!今天的比賽不僅看外表,才藝專案也是評分的重點!”

The judge was the highly respected Mr. Owl. He stood sternly at the judges’ table, adjusted his glasses, and flapped his wings as he announced, “The competition begins! Today’s contest will judge not only appearances but also talent performances as a key factor!”

第一位出場的是小松鼠。它在舞臺上表演了一連串的尾巴絕技,它抓起三顆堅果高高拋向空中,又用尾巴穩穩接住,動作靈活而優雅。觀眾們熱烈鼓掌,小松鼠得意地笑了:“我的尾巴不光好看,還很實用呢!”

It grabbed three nuts, threw them high into the air, and caught them steadily with its tail, moving skillfully and gracefully. The audience applauded enthusiastically. The little squirrel smiled proudly, “My tail isn’t just beautiful; it’s also very useful!”

 

接著輪到小兔子,它表演了一場驚險的障礙跳躍。只見它飛快地沖過灌木叢,又輕鬆躍過一條小河,最後一個漂亮的後空翻,小兔子穩穩落地。觀眾席響起如雷的掌聲,兔媽媽興奮得直揮手:“我家的孩子最棒了!”

Next, it was the little rabbit’s turn. It performed a thrilling obstacle jump, dashing swiftly through bushes, leaping effortlessly over a small river, and finishing with a perfect backflip, landing firmly. Thunderous applause erupted from the audience, and Rabbit Mom excitedly waved her hand: “My child is the best!”

小蜜蜂們的表演更是充滿了創意。它們開始跳起了整齊劃一的舞蹈,然後帶著十幾瓶花蜜飛上舞臺,彎腰鞠躬說:“這些蜂蜜是我們努力一天採集的成果,請大家品嘗。”動物們嘗過後,紛紛稱讚:“真甜,真香!我從來沒喝過這麼好喝的東西!”連貓頭鷹都頻頻點頭認可。

The bees’ performance was even more creative. Please enjoy.” After tasting, the animals praised, “So sweet and fragrant! I’ve never had anything this delicious!” Even the owl nodded repeatedly in approval.

終於輪到孔雀登場了。它緩緩走上臺,表演了一段”孔雀開屏”的舞蹈,那羽毛在陽光下閃閃發光,五顏六色的,好不美麗。台下發出了一片驚歎聲:“好漂亮啊!”

Finally, it was the peacock’s turn. It walked slowly onto the stage and performed a “peacock spreading its tail” dance. Its feathers sparkled in the sunlight, vibrant with all colors, and were truly beautiful. The audience gasped in admiration, “So gorgeous!”

孔雀驕傲地在舞臺上走了一圈,得意地問評審:“我的羽毛夠美吧?還有誰比我更漂亮?”

The peacock froze for a moment and then said, “Talent? My feathers are my talent!”

The owl frowned and said, “Only having outer beauty without inner talent or contribution doesn’t count as true beauty.”

台下的觀眾也開始竊竊私語:“孔雀這麼自大,真讓人失望。”孔雀氣得甩了甩尾巴,漲紅了臉,尷尬地走下臺。

The audience began whispering, “The peacock is so arrogant; it’s really disappointing.” The peacock flicked its tail angrily, its face turning red, and walked off the stage awkwardly.

選美比賽結束,最終,貓頭鷹宣佈:“冠軍是小蜜蜂!它的勤勞為森林帶來了極大的貢獻。它們不但傳播花粉,也為動物們提供了美味的蜂蜜。”

貓頭鷹把金蘋果交給了小蜜蜂,台下觀眾也給予冠軍熱烈的掌聲,唯有孔雀滿臉不服氣,嘀咕道:“這比賽太不公平了,我這麼美,竟然輸給一只小蟲子!”

貓頭鷹意味深長地說:“美麗不只是外表好看而已,更重要的是,你的內在和對大家的貢獻。”孔雀聽完,滿臉不屑,哼了一聲,氣衝衝地離開了。

幾天後,森林突然發生大火,濃煙四起,所有動物都忙著救火。小蜜蜂飛來飛去,通知所有的動物去避難,小松鼠用尾巴靈活地搭建水渠,小兔子跳來跳去,迅速搬運水桶。而孔雀卻站在一旁,茫然地看著火焰,不知道該做什麼。

茫然 (máng rán) – blank, bewildered

A few days later, a sudden fire broke out in the forest, with thick smoke everywhere. All the animals were busy fighting the fire. The little bees flew around, informing everyone to evacuate. The squirrel used its tail deftly to build water channels, and the rabbit hopped around, quickly carrying water buckets. But the peacock just stood aside, staring at the flames blankly, not knowing what to do.

最後,火勢被撲滅了,森林一片狼藉。孔雀看著忙碌的動物們,慚愧地低下頭,它終於意識到,自己除了漂亮的羽毛,什麼忙也幫不了。

Eventually, the fire was extinguished, and the forest was left in ruins. The peacock watched the busy animals and lowered its head in shame. It finally realized that, apart from its beautiful feathers, it couldn’t help with anything.

它走到貓頭鷹面前,低聲問:“貓頭鷹先生,我能為森林做點什麼嗎?”
tā zǒu dào māo tóu yīng miàn qián, dī shēng wèn: “māo tóu yīng xiān shēng, wǒ néng wèi sēn lín zuò diǎn shén me ma?”

低聲 (dī shēng) – in a low voice

It walked up to the owl and softly asked, “Mr. Owl, is there anything I can do for the forest?”

 

 

貓頭鷹說:“用你的美麗來幫助大家吧!真正的美是能為別人創造出價值。”
māo tóu yīng shuō: “yòng nǐ de měi lì lái bāng zhù dà jiā ba! zhēn zhèng de měi shì néng wèi bié rén chuàng zào chū jià zhí.”


The owl said, “Use your beauty to help others! True beauty is the ability to create value for others.”

 

從那天起,孔雀不再炫耀自己,而是主動參與森林裏的活動,它用自己的羽毛吸引遊客,為森林帶來重建的機會,因此也慢慢贏得了其他動物的尊重。

From that day on, the peacock stopped showing off and took the initiative to participate in forest activities. It used its feathers to attract tourists, bringing opportunities for the forest to rebuild, and slowly earned the respect of other animals.
